The ESRC Funded PhD Scholarships are available for all National, International and PhD Students in the field of Social Sciences at the University of Reading.
For international applicants who are being considered for a SeNSS scholarship, the University of Reading will provide the difference in tuition between the home country fee and the international fee.
Eligibility requirements:
For eligibility for doctoral programs, successful candidate(s) generally require an undergraduate level degree with a minimum of a 2.1 grade above or equivalent value plus a master’s degree, related to the topic of the intended doctoral program.
For certain university fields, including the arts, humanities, social sciences, and business, candidates are typically admitted to study for a PhD only after completing a master’s degree.
Application process:
In order to participate in this scholarship, applicants must apply to the University for Acceptance into a doctoral program. Applying for admission to a doctoral program is an independent process from submitting an application for SeNSS support.

Documents requested from the applicant include: a high school degree or academic record, A level, and an international baccalaureate diploma, Internationally recognized credentials from abroad are acceptable, as well as evidence of residence.

It is required that candidates verify all university entrance qualifications.
Conditions of Language:
Most doctoral programs have a minimum IELTS requirement of 6.5; based on this, there are some fields that demand a 7.0 score; they include the following: Henley Business School excluding Business Informatics and Systems Accounting that will accommodate 6.5, School of Arts and Communication Design, School of Humanities, School of Languages Literature and European Studies and Institute of Education.
